"Don't you feel like you're under a lot of pressure to always make a costume?"
I remember fellow runners Catherine and Brian asked me that in Chicago. The answer is a big fatty blob YES. I do feel pressured though I'm unsure if it's pressure I put on myself or pressure from others' expectation. But as long as I have ideas, I'll keep executing them. When it ceases to be fun one day, then that's probably when I walk away.
That said, I was pretty freaking relieved that I can finally venture out of the the Disney lines. Since this was a big city race, I thought it would be funny to go as some sort of race car. And there you go, that was my entire brainstorm. Mario accessories are easy to make or buy, but the car was a bit of a challenge. I ended up with 3 inflatable pool toys; one was way too big, one was not red, and one was the one I eventually used.
Chicago was effing hot and humid. I perhaps should've been less ambitious and just ran in regular running clothes like everyone else. But I don't really like to be like everyone else. ;) If I'm going to have to suffer the stifling weather, might as well do it in style! Running with an inflatable is difficult. Even though I've done a similar thing for Max Rebo, every inflatable is shaped and weighed differently. Unless it is 100% stuck and strapped into you, your gait and form will have to be tweaked in order to run with an inflatable.
Lot of dudes on course making cutesy comments as they run past me like "Oh, I hope you don't blueshell me, Hot Mario!" I did have bananas. But I wisely did not respond by throwing it at them.
