Finally.
On and off after the initial announcement of Disney's Lucas acquisition in 2012, I have been conceptualizing, engineering, and testing techniques to create a Slave Leia race costume that looks the most accurate while have it still function as a running/sports piece.
After 2 years, 6 failed prototypes, multiple test runs, constantly green fingers from dye, and silicon casting mess that fucked up my floors, I have finally arrived at the winning prototype and mechanism. Compression, accuracy, dry fit, bounce-proof, and chafe-free. It has been a long journey!
The basic plan that I settled on was to use a nude underwire sports bra as my base. *NOT* just a normal compression sports bra - the reason being that I didn't want the uniboob burrito looks. Leia is wearing a bikini, and it should look like one, not just a pattern on a sports bra. So basically, it's one set of dyed green underwire bra cups glue-gunned onto the nude bra base. I used pourable silicone rubber to remake the gold bra hardware.
The bottom part of the costume is store-bought, and I sewed little velcro spots so I can hike up the skirt and velcro the corners onto the side of my booty shorts to make it easier to run.
My other secret is that I used metallic paint to add dimension with shading and highlighting. It definitely makes the gold part look more like metal, and pop in photos. Check out the difference:
I think I looked awesome. Other people did too. Even though one lady kind of slut-shamed me by saying to me at the corral, "Real runners don't look that naked."
Um, okay.
